More World Cup drama over the weekend, as U.S Soccer star Folarin Balogun will play in the round of 16 against Belgium. Balogun received a red card during the match against Bosnia and was originally going to be forced to sit out the next game against Belgium. However, as Lee Corso so famously says, “not so fast, my friend!” U.S. Soccer appealed the controversial decision by the referee to issue the red card, with an assist from President Donald Trump.
JM: Early Sunday morning, FIFA announced a reversal of the decision, making Balogun eligible to play tonight. Trump was asked about it during an event today at the White House….
JM: Listening to Trump talk about this was like listening to all of the guys sitting around our 4th of July barbecue talking about it. The play was definitely controversial and unintentional, and I think allowing Balogun to play tonight was the right call.
JM: Did Trump’s phone call to FIFA President Gianni Infantino affect the outcome of the ruling? I think it is obvious that it did. Do you think Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, Barack Obama, or George W. Bush would have made that phone call? I doubt it. I applaud Trump for at least trying. Balogun playing tonight makes the game even more exciting than it otherwise would have been. The U.S. needs to be at full strength at this stage of the competition.
JM: Zohran Mamdani, the mayor of New York City, took the opportunity of the 250th celebration of the birth of America to give an anti-American speech bashing the country. I wish this guy would just shut up and go away. Read the room. And maybe turn your desk around so you are sitting behind it the correct way.
JM: What a depressing reminder of the dystopia we were forced to live through during the Biden years. Thank God most of my friends and I never listened to a word this guy said.
JM: Very true.
JM: I chuckled at this. Then I read some comments from people saying, “Since when is California not in America?” The number of people on social media without a sense of humor is almost stunning. That said, California and New York might as well be foreign countries. I know I’m never visiting either place again.
JM: Was Harrison Butker the ONLY player on the Chiefs roster that was not invited to the Swift/Kelce wedding? If so, that’s pretty low. I’ll wait to hear from Butker or Kelce for confirmation.
JM: “Jones was allegedly found with a pipe and small baggie with white residue that tested positive for methamphetamine, court documents say.”
Stay off the meth, kids. Even if you’re a senior citizen.
