From The Couch – Fireworks Stand Catches Fire

Have you ever seen a fireworks stand catch fire, setting off many of the fireworks, with it all caught on video? It happened last weekend in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.

JM: Apparently, the fire was caused by an electrical failure about 10 minutes after the owners left for the evening. It took firefighters about 20 minutes to put out the fire. Quite a show.

JM: I’ve gotta admit, I take the side of the BB gun shooter on this one. Those naked bike rides are just gross.

JM: I recently listened to Bill O’Reilly’s book “Killing Reagan.” It is a thorough history of the life and times of Ronald Reagan, who spent not just his Presidency, but his entire life, speaking about the evils of Communism. He knew and hung around with plenty of Communists in his early years and quickly formed the opinion that it is a deeply flawed and evil ideology. I recommend all of Bill’s “Killing” books, but I really learned a lot from “Killing Reagan.”

JM: After US tourists mocked France over the lack of air conditioning across the country amid 104-degree temperatures, Audrey Pulvar, deputy mayor of Paris for international relations, claimed the situation was partly America’s fault.

Check out this quote from Ms. Pulvar…

“Dear American journalists and social media ‘influencers’: for days, some of you have been criticizing and making fun of Paris because the city does not have A/C in every room … OMG, this is so rich!”

“As the second-largest emitter of greenhouse gas emissions in the world, you bear a significant amount of responsibility for global warming and the consequences we, in France, are experiencing. Your cities, which are 90 percent air conditioned, are not unrelated to this. So please, enough with the lecture. Just start doing your part.”

That’s right, America. It is your fault that it is hot in France. What a nut job.

JM: In a 6-3 vote, the Supreme Court upheld birthright citizenship. While I believe the birthright citizenship amendment should be rewritten, I agree with what Ms. Salazar says here. Congress needs to pass a law. It can’t be up to the current President to issue an executive order ruling on this. That said, birthright citizenship has become a mess. The Founding Fathers did not foresee how people would take advantage of the amendment, nor did they think, for example, that someone could come to the United States on vacation from a foreign country and give birth to a child who would then automatically become a citizen of the United States. There should be a more modern definition of what it takes to become a citizen of the United States. I would say if both parents are citizens and you are born on US soil, you are a US citizen. Problem solved? Unfortunately, I have no hope that Congress will ever agree to solve this issue. Charlie Kirk gave a pretty good analogy when discussing birthright citizenship…

Do you agree or disagree?

JM: Reggie White is one of my favorite football players ever. I don’t recall seeing this clip of him manhandling Chris Carter with one arm. He had to be the strongest man ever to play the game. That clip reminded me of how much I miss football. Watching the World Cup is getting me by, but I can’t wait for football to get here.
