From The Couch – Lighten Up, Francis

Do you know what the phrase “lighten up, Francis” is from? The movie “Stripes.” In one of the scenes, the soldiers go around the room introducing themselves. When they get to Francis “Psycho” Sawyer, (played by Conrad Dunn), he addresses his squadron about how touching him and his belongings will result in the massacre of everyone.

Upon hearing this, the Sergeant of the soldiers, Sgt. Hulka (portrayed by Warren Oates) says, “Lighten up, Francis,” bringing comic relief to the tense scene.

Here is the scene in full….

I use this GIF all the time on social media when someone gets too serious about something that isn’t quite so serious. Today, a reporter asked Senator John Fetterman a question, and Fetterman used the “lighten up, Francis” reference. The reporter had no idea what he was talking about. This is hilarious….

JM: “What do you mean, Francis?” Seriously? How young is that reporter? Anyway, that was a perfect reply by Fetterman. Lighten up and get over yourself.

JM: Can you imagine buying a house “as is” in an auction, and you go to move in and you find three dead bodies in it? I guess the moral of the story is always to get an inspection!

JM: This crazy lady wanted to steal a souvenir, so she just dumped out the trash on the sidewalk and took the empty can on the subway with her!

A couple of my favorite quotes from the article

“Dumping trash onto the street and stealing public property for your own personal use are both illegal, antisocial behaviors, and not what New Yorkers do. On top of all that, doing both on camera is incredibly stupid,” the New York City Department of Sanitation told The Post in a statement about the clip.”

JPMorgan Chase, where Baez worked as executive director of community and industry engagement, confirmed this week that, “the employee is no longer with the company.”

She previously served as executive director of diversity, equity, and inclusion at New York-based review website the Infatuation, which Chase acquired as part of its broader push into lifestyle and experiential content.

“In a bio on the Infatuation’s website, Báez is described as someone whose “dedication to making a positive impact shines through in every aspect of her work.” The publication adds that “Angie’s efforts have helped position [the Infatuation] as a trailblazer in the pursuit of a more equitable and relatable food media industry,” calling her one of the “brightest voices” in the space.”

“As a vibrant mosaic of Dominican heritage, Bronx roots, and a passion for storytelling, creativity, and culture, Angie continues to lead the way towards a more inclusive and equitable future for food media, leaving an indelible mark on the Infatuation and everything she touches,” the bio states.

Baez also appears to have co-founded a queer and black, indigenous and people of color-owned talent agency, Same Page Co., which is “focused on increasing representation and equity in media and industry. It works with artists/talent on creative projects, photoshoots, strategy, and business affairs.”

Same Page Co. did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Post.

Earlier in her career, Báez worked as diversity and inclusion program lead at Squarespace and held top jobs in diversity and inclusion roles at Saks Fifth Avenue, Hudson’s Bay, and Saks Off 5th, according to another online biography.

Am I shocked that this person is a DEI, woke freak? Not in the least. In fact, it makes perfect sense!

JM: This is the type of person who is winning elections in New York and in other radical left areas of our country…someone who wipes their hands with the American flag.

JM: Lots of strange news coming out of New York City. Trump says the United States will never be a Communist country, but New York is sure trending in that direction.

JM: The anti-Semitism in some areas of our country is completely out of control. I hope they throw the book at this coffee shop.

JM: Love is known for playing light-hearted comedic roles, but he has quite the rap sheet. Here is some of his work from the movie “Elf.”

JM: There is photo evidence of Switzer doing the Jell-O shots with another Oklahoma football legend, Bob Stoops….

JM: Glad to see these guys still having fun and supporting the school. Oklahoma won the College World Series, by the way. I need to make it up to Omaha one of these years. I hear it’s a blast.
