From The Couch – Is KC Ready for the Messi Invasion?

I was driving around the Plaza this morning, and Argentina soccer fans were wandering around everywhere. It looks like they are going to take over Arrowhead Stadium tonight in the first World Cup game ever held in Kansas City.

JM: Lionel Messi is one of the best soccer players in the world, and he plays for Argentina, the defending World Cup champions. They play Algeria at 8:00 p.m. Central time tonight at Arrowhead Stadium. This will be quite the spectacle. Tickets are too rich for my blood, but I will be watching “from the couch.”

JM: Finally, the Brendan Sorsby saga is over. Sorsby is leaving Texas Tech and declared for the NFL supplemental draft. A potential lawsuit filed by the Big 12 forced his and Texas Tech’s, hand. The league’s filing on Monday asked a federal judge to bar Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s office from preventing the conference from exercising its right under the bylaws to sanction Tech. The conference sought no damages in the filing and did not challenge a state court ruling that deemed Sorsby eligible, but instead requested a judge to permit it to take action in light of Paxton’s legal threats — a lawsuit that many within the legal community expected the Big 12 to win. In essence, the remaining 15 Big 12 school presidents discussed options to sanction the school, including a monetary fine and conference championship game ban. Texas Tech and Sorsby caved, as they really had no other choice.

This is just the latest controversy in what has been almost constant drama in the Big 12 for the last 15 years. Texas Tech is probably looking for an exit strategy to leave the conference at some point, so I doubt the drama is ending anytime soon.

JM: Have you read about this planned terrorist attack? This was a well-coordinated operation designed to result in mass casualties. Pretty scary. The conspirators were caught after a family member of one of them reported their suspicious activity to law enforcement. One of those arrested, Daniel K. Eskridge, is from Kansas City, Missouri. Thank God they were caught ahead of time.

JM: Two plane crashes in two days. The difference is that this one was a military test flight that went down right after takeoff. Eight people died in this crash. Who is in charge of the maintenance of these aircraft?

JM: My Mom and Dad visited Japan a few years ago. They have traveled to foreign countries quite a bit and they said that Japan was the cleanest country they have been to. So it wasn’t surprising to see this story. It is neat that these Japanese soccer fans cleaned up after themselves at the stadium. Maybe that’s a tradition we should start in the United States.

JM: It doesn’t bother me that these players wrote Bible verses on their caps. It also doesn’t bother me that they received a warning from Major League Baseball not to do it again. There are rules against them decorating their uniform, and they broke the rules. What I have a problem with is forcing the “Pride agenda” on everyone.

JM: Mike Leach was a national treasure, and this story from Urban Meyer is great. If you ever want to burn a couple of hours, go down the rabbit hole of Mike Leach interviews on YouTube. It’s quite entertaining!

JM: A whale bone? Leave it to Maine for that one.

JM: Hasn’t this lady ever heard of a DVR or OnDemand streaming? I think she was using “Love Island” as an excuse, but who knows? If there were a show that was only broadcast live and you had to drive 108 miles per hour to get home in time to watch it, or you would miss it, what show would that be?
