From The Couch – Bear Breaks Into House And Eats Leftover KFC

Want to prevent bears from breaking into your house? Don’t leave your leftover KFC on the kitchen table like this Harlan County, Kentucky woman did…

JM: I never knew that bears eat chicken, but it is good to know.

JM: Tommy John was a veteran of 26 major league baseball seasons who helped revolutionize recovery from pitching injuries in the 1970s. The surgery he underwent is now commonly called “Tommy John” surgery.

John broke in with Cleveland as a 20-year-old in 1963 and made his last appearance for the Yankees at age 46 in 1989, also pitching for the White Sox, Dodgers, Angels, and Athletics. The left-hander won 288 games, made four All-Star teams and anchored three pennant-winning teams, while twice finishing as a runner-up for the Cy Young Award. His 700 games started ranks 8th on the all-time list.

After John injured his elbow in 1974, he received the first ulnar collateral ligament replacement surgery from Dr. Frank Jobe. John returned to pitch in 1976, then won 20 games three times in four years from 1977-80.

He would go on to pitch 14 of his 26 seasons after the procedure that is now known as Tommy John Surgery, a measure that has helped extend pitching careers in the more than half a century since it was first performed.

He was 83. I was a bit surprised to learn that John is not in the baseball Hall of Fame. He probably deserves to be. It used to be that winning 300 games as a pitcher automatically got you in. He retired with 288 wins, so he got pretty close. Maybe he’ll make it one day.

JM: Geez, more WNBA madness. These people with the WNBA can’t help getting negative press almost daily now. It is insane that security made them cover their shirts or get kicked out. Ever heard of the First Amendment? The shirts they wore were not in any way vulgar. The people involved with running that league are clueless about how the real world works.

JM: The first thing I thought of when watching the video above was “where are the police and security?” There were none in sight! We had something like this happen in Lee’s Summit recently, and they canceled the event and all future events. Now it has happened at the Wisconsin State Fair. Here is some additional information about what happened…

JM: Are event organizers not providing enough security at these events, or are teens running wild like they never have before? I don’t recall brawls like this happening so often in the past, but it seems like it happens all the time now.

JM: This is a sad story of someone dying way too young. I remember Hayden as a child actor in “Remember The Titans,” playing Sheryl Yoast, daughter of assistant coach Bill Yoast, played by Will Patton. She performed in television shows and movies in Hollywood her whole life, starring in soap operas and shows such as “Heroes,” “Nashville,” and some of the “Scream” movies. According to People, she died of an apparent overdose…

JM: Apparently Hayden did not have an easy life in Hollywood. She told this harrowing story on a podcast recently about an experience she had on a yacht when she was 18…

JM: That is pretty scary. Wish she would have outed the famous person or people in question.

Hayden’s character in “Remember The Titans” was great. She provided comic relief throughout the entire movie. She also had a short, yet large, part in the best scene of the movie when Bill Yoast sees her complaining from the stands, which is the trigger that makes him realize to take control of a corruption situation. Enjoy what I believe is one of the greatest scenes in cinema history…

JM: Rest in peace, Hayden.
